Le vecchie mura
The gate of Reguscio dates back to the sixteenth century and it is placed along the oldest approach road to Chiavenna: it was used as the place where, at the south entrance of the small village, duties or tolls were paid.
The great defensive work against the Grison invasions started in 1488 according to the will of Ludovico Maria Sforza.
At a first glimpse you can notice that the walls do not have any curved lines but they are completely straight.
A built-up area has been made along the walls skirting the left bank of the river Mera .
Several control towers were inserted into the walls: 12 of them can be picked out. |
